IMPORTANT NOTES;
COVID-19 case numbers are now very high and rising rapidly across the country, driven by the new variant of COVID-19.

The Tier system in Wiltshire is set to protect each other and stop the spread of the virus.

At this current time clinically extremely vulnerable children and young people should not attend school or other educational settings, because the risk of exposure to the virus in the community is now very high.

We are Caenhillcc are abiding by the rules and guidance set down to help and support us all.

  1. Require people to stay at home, except for specific purposes
  2. Allow key volunteers to support the welfare of the animals here at Caenhillcc.
  3. Prevent people gathering with those they do not live with, except for specific purposes.
  4. Support children and young people to learn remotely until updated guidance is issued - which may not be until February half term.

Greetings  and welcome to the Caenhill Countryside Centre web site. We are working with communities to bring agriculture and horticulture to children and young people by providing courses and hands on experiences set on a farm.

For media / shoutouts please contact my daughter and PR advisor Kara at media@caenhillcc.org.uk

Our courses and activities cover agriculture, horticulture and rural skills are mainly delivered at the farm but we also take them to schools and to other educational establishments.

Working with schools, we aim to deliver
courses that will encourage the enjoyment of farming, animals and the countryside.

The project has opportunities for you to help our students and young adults develop skills in Animals welfare, Crops, Machinery, Rural Crafts, Countryside Heritage, Welbeing, Metal work, Wood work, Conservation and countryside media.

As a charity (Registered Charity Number 1177801) we rely on support from volunteers, funders and supporters.

We are based  to the west of Devizes in Wiltshire, very near to the flight of locks at Caen Hill on the Kennet and Avon canal. SN10 5TF follow for map

We are a working farm,we produce crops for our animals and to sell. We do not send our animals to market they are part of our education team and like us work with young people's education and wellbeing. Visitors are by appointment only so please get in touch if you want to visit. helie@caenhillcc.org.uk

The farm has ten themed areas across the site.

Please make sure you advise us of visits, sign in & out, keep gates / doors closed, do not feed animals unless instructed and of course when arriving & leaving  to use our boot & hand wash area.

Volunteering

Volunteering

Now what would be your reason for volunteering?

Making new friends, working in a great outdoor place, knowing that you can help to keep the project going.

On Saturday  between 9am-12pm adults can visit the farm to volunteer and get to know the charity and what voluntary work is available.  Contact Chris at caenhillcc@gmail.com or use the form below.  Please wear sensible clothing suitable for a farm.

This document can be used as a checklist of considerations when looking for volunteering opportunities .

The Caenhill Countryside Centre welcomes volunteers from all walks of life.  Our team work benefits from those  who love getting involved in every level of our work.  It could be fencing, building, painting, moving bales, mucking out, helping with animal care, helping with children or group visitors as they enjoy their day here.

It is also good to have support with our events, fundraising opportunities and outside links to the project.

There are lots of ways you can help and you don’t need volunteering experience. If you have the time, commitment or knowledge to share, we’ll do our best to work with you to help us, develop your interests and skills network, and hope we work with you to enjoy your time, at a time to please you and to help us when we need it

Practicalities of Volunteering with CaenhillCC

  • You will receive a thorough induction to the project then to  your role/ task so that you are confident in what we are asking you to do.
  • In general volunteers must be over 18 and trained or able to undertake the task in hand.
  • There is no maximum age, just ensure you are fit enough for tasks.
  • It is your responsibility to make sure you are able to volunteer.
  • Some teenagers may be willing and able for some tasks but -  we cannot always provide supervision so this may restrict younger people to volunteering with their parents or guardian or supporter.
  • We cannot pay volunteers - any courses or notified expenses will be viewed.

Here are just some of the opportunities where our project volunteers can help

What can you volunteer for?

Ideas - maintenance roles - electrical, plumbing, fencing, repairs, clean up and weeding of entrances/ pathways / workshops, painting

Gardening roles - weeding, planting, pruning, watering, tidying areas, digging, garden machinery , compost bins,

Animal Care roles - These are mainly done by our students though there are opportunities to help. Looking for people to use their skills in looking after our animals.

Farmer roles - fencing, ditching , making pens, feed / water solutions, lifting of heavy items, digging

If you would like to join us, support our team, offer some help then please get in touch. contact@caenhillcc.org.uk

How can groups get involved?

The Caenhill Countryside Centre project welcomes people from many walks of life, many age groups, and differing interests.

Perhaps you would like to come along to learn more about the countryside or to help with a day of teamwork volunteering.

School and Young People's Groups

We are keen to welcome school groups to the Caenhill Countryside Centre. We work with the teachers and team to prepare a full hands on experience to enhance and encourage their learning. We link with the school project , develop a programme of activities and keep everyone on board through their time here.

Young People’s Groups

We have welcomed many young people and helped them achieve for their own personal project, and we can help young people with:

Our countryside centre is a caring learning centre many have described as a healing farm. The calm of the countryside and animals makes it a relaxing centre where we can all Learn with Nature.

Youth Leader Awards, Brownie badges, Scout badges, Rainbow’s awards and much more.

We work with leaders to give the groups a worthwhile time and achievement. It must also fit in with the work time of the project and the supervision time required.

Some groups may wish to come and do a group volunteering session which we can help with.

If you would like to join us, support our team, offer some help then please get in touch. contact@caenhillcc.org.uk
