Below are extracts from the diary of the newest member of the Caenhill Team. Here Oreo records his first week at the farm. Being a dog there may be a few errors in his timeline but hopefully he can be forgiven any slight mistakes.
Saturday 26th September 2020
I left home with Kevin and was taken on a long car trip.
Around lunchtime we arrived at a farm.
It was very windy.
There were lots of strange looking animals. There were two enormous birds called Rodney and Del and two donkeys who kept asking for apples or carrots. They showed no interest in the red ball in their run.
There were many cats. I must confess I don't like cats.
Most animals took no notice of me but a sheep called Bumblebee kept butting me with her head. I think sheep are a bit silly.
I was introduced to some lovely people: Chris, Caroline, Kara, Julia and Perry. They all seemed pleased to meet me.
I learnt I was to be left here.
I'm not sure I understand.
A long and confusing day.
Sunday 27th September 2020
Chris woke me up early and we went for a walk round some fields. It was very cold.
There were many new sniffs.
There were also some familiar ones: Deer, Rabbit, Badger, Squirrel and Mr Fox.
I left my scent everywhere I could so everyone will know I have arrived.
Chris was very chatty telling me all about where I had come to live. It sounds an exciting place.
I was shut inside as he said he had to go and get ready for something called rush hour.
I barked a lot to make sure he didn't forget me.
Later Chris took me to a field of sunflowers he was very proud of. He took lots of photos of me. He seems very fond of his camera.
Monday 28th September 2020
Up early again. It looks like this will be my new routine.
There was a beautiful sunrise.
The field of sheep was very misty. There were watching me very carefully.
Bumblebee followed us around and I think she wishes she was a dog.
For some reason Chris kept calling me Ozo. I'm not sure what that was all about.
I was left inside again for the rush hour thing. Bark, bark, bark.
Later I learnt all about all the other dogs that had been in Chris's life:
Tim – was his dads dog
Poppy – she was his dog
Micky – a Jack Russel terrier and close companion
Jazz – a family dog bought from a market
In the evening Chris played fetch with me. I love that game.
I was let off the lead with some male sheep and managed to bring one back to him. I'm not sure if he was pleased or not but I was very happy with myself.
Another tiring day.
Tuesday 29th September 2020
Joined what Chris refers to a something like 'you tube live'.
I was kept on the lead but I kept a close watch on the sheep and cats.
I was shut in again during rush hour. I will have to do my best to be quieter but everything is so exciting.
Played ball with Chris and Kara. Apparently a lady is sending me a present – a ball flinger thingy. Not sure what it is but it sounds fun.
In the evening Chris and I went on a woodland walk which gave me even more places to spread my scent – I did my best to wee on every tree.
Caroline visited. She has already done a sketch of me. Maybe one day I will be on lots of merchandise like her favorite goose, Giggle.
Wednesday 30th September 2020
Enjoyed the sunrise in the office with Chris overlooking the sheep.
Chris tied me up as he prepared for rush hour but I ended up being put inside again as I was too keen to get at the cats. I will have to try to get used to them but I don't like cats. Grrr.
Had fun exploring in the hay barn with Chris and Caroline. Caroline thinks I am a lovely colour and called me a little gem. I like Caroline.
Thursday 1st October 2020
I have been given a new collar. It is very smart.
Chris hopes in the future I will be able to help him detect any problems with the animals with my super sensitive nose. I am good at sniffing things out.
Oh dear – I was barking too much again so back inside for me.
Later I helped pull Chris up an embankment by the Forestry School area. More territory to mark. Earlier I even managed to wee on the hay in the barn but I don't think Chris was very happy about that.
Friday 2nd October 2020
Wet and windy today.
Chris and I went on a very wet tour of the farm. I was able to add wet dog smell to the things for Chris to sniff. I think he prefers the smell of roses or is it Heather?
I learnt something amazing though. Caroline has made something called a vlog. No idea what that is but I have been told she has already put a painting of me on T Shirts and mugs like Giggle. Wow. I love Caroline.
Also, there is a fund raising link for me. Not sure what that is for. I hope its something good.
I can't believe I have only been at the farm a week. I think I am going to be very happy here and hopefully I will be a great companion for Chris.
