Weekly Roundup 10 May 2020
I don't think Chris and Caroline made it obvious at all that it was my Birthday yesterday, so I was really surprised to have so many lovely Birthday messages. But seriously, thank you so much to everyone in our wonderful CaenhillCC community who wished me a Happy Birthday, you are all fantastic. Thanks to you all my day felt so much more special. I'm not sad that my Birthday is over because I still have plenty of cake and ice cream and I still get to celebrate all of your Birthdays. To be able help you make someone else's day special is such a privilege. Just don't forget to request your shoutout via our form with at least a couple of days' notice so we don't miss you because your day is important too.
I can't mention my Birthday without mentioning Caroline. I love her paintings of our CaenhillCC animals and Casey has a print of Smudge in his room, but this week she took on a special commission for me. I finally asked Caroline to paint my beautiful cat Muffin who I lost while I was pregnant with Casey after eleven years as best friends. Check out Caroline's feed and YouTube Channel for the end result, she's really brought Muffin back to life for me. In fact, she captures all of our animals character in every piece so check out her work if you haven't already.
Before I finish on Birthdays, there have been a few new arrivals at the farm this week. We were really happy to see the first of our Wiltshire Horn females give birth and a beautiful lamb arrived on Tuesday. We also had some unexpected arrivals hatch on our bank holiday weekend. Some bantam chicks appeared from the top of our hay bales, of all places, so Chris and Caroline helped the chicks and their mum find a safer place to rest.
We've got some super cute babies around the farm at the moment and Giggle is definitely the most popular. This week he's gone swimming, had a run with Caroline and met our guinea pigs, and the bond with his new house mates is just the sweetest thing. He also stars in my favourite addition to the farm videos, the Giggle express, if you haven't seen it already definitely check it out. If goslings and ducklings aren't your thing though, keep an eye out for Alfie's kittens. They opened their eyes for the first time on Thursday and made their CaenhillCC main feed debut. Caroline's little kitten is definitely a strong contender to take Giggle's top spot in the cute contest.
Of course, as with every week, the animals have been keeping Chris, Caroline and Helie busy. Cuthbert has been struggling with his moult, so he's been getting some extra care. Cuthbert's struggled with his moult over the last few years so we're not concerned, we're just making sure he gets plenty of space to rest. While Coco and Eli have been enjoying being back out in their paddock, celebrated international donkey day and taught us that they don't like broccoli, back to carrots it is.
It's been a busy week at the farm away from our animals as well. We've been keeping a close eye on our bees and saw a swarm arrive at the farm this week. We've also started some of our planting after one of our volunteers and trustees came in and rotavated our new sunflower area. I can't wait to see the sunflowers once the seeds are in and they've started to grow.
As it's so busy we haven't got live sessions planned in at the moment, but we'll review these when we can. Don't forget that until then you can always request a virtual VIP visit by dropping me an email. Chris and Caroline had a great time with some virtual VIP visitors this weekend, they met Giggle, spent some time with Coco and Eli and even got to say hi to the kittens.
Thank you to everyone for watching us at the farm this week, and a big welcome to everyone who has joined us. We hope you have a fantastic week ahead, and for everyone celebrating Mother's Day today, have a great one.
Until next time, keep safe.
Kara and Casey
