WEEKLY ROUNDUP 11 OCTOBER 2020
It's going to be a difficult job to sum up this week, but I'll give it my best shot, because it's been a busy but fantastic week which ended with a pretty special Birthday. Well, strictly speaking, it ended with Birthday celebrations, Chris' actual Birthday isn't until next week but we couldn't miss the opportunity to celebrate with you all at home.
In true Chris style, we didn't have just any celebration, we had live streams, costumes, TikTok videos and so much more all kicked off with a unique rush hour with Chris and Caroline. Unfortunately I'm no good at getting up all that early in the morning, so I didn't join the celebrations until later in the day, but I'm pleased they left some of the fun until I arrived and my coffee kicked in. Thankfully the rest of the day was powered by laughter, mostly at Chris' outfits, and between it all we even managed to have a Birthday lunch prepared by Helie. If you haven't yet seen Chris singing along to Rick Astley, please check it out of the 'crishandcario' TokTok account, it's hilarious.
Thank you so much to everyone who watched, commented, and joined us live yesterday and of course everyone who wished Chris a Happy Birthday. We had the best time thanks to you all joining in and sharing the costumes, my unusual sporting victories and so much dancing. We'll get to all of the gifts and cards sent as we get closer to Chris' real Birthday, but for now it's a day of getting back to our usual duties of looking after the animals, planning in shoutouts and maybe some painting for Caroline.
With the whole team together yesterday, it was also a fantastic opportunity to tell you about our new CaenhillCC shop that we've brought together with UK company ASK Creative. It's the first time we've worked with ASK creative, so we've just launched with just a few items for now, but we're really excited to see what we can work on together, they've been giving us so many ideas. Though for now it's home of the 2021 photo calendar and cat diary, along with a kitchen calendar and Christmas cards from Caroline on the way. Though Caroline will feature in our shop, we'll keep it different to the beautiful items Caroline' already created and if there's anything you'd like to see, especially on posters, let us know.
The calendar is a bit special for me this year, not just because it features my own photos for the first time, but because it was a family effort too. Myself and Chris, with the support of farmer Casey, worked hard to bring the calendar together and arrange the photoshoots, and I hope you'll agree that we've created something special. We've captured Daisy in the sunflowers which was probably the most interesting photo shoot I've had to date, Ken in the frost, Giggle having a splash and a very late addition of Trigger and Marlene having a kiss along with a special front cover. Thank you to everyone who's already purchased, I can't believe my photos are going to be up in your homes next year.
Away from calendars and celebrations it's still just as busy keeping the farm running, so, for the first time we're looking to employ someone to join the team. Unfortunately we can't supply accommodation, but hopefully we'll find someone locally to join us part time to support our student placements. Having students learning at the farm is what our project was designed for, but working on the farm is demanding, though now we have funding and support from the School for Social Entrepreneurs to employ someone to help out, we're hoping to develop what we can offer our students while keeping the essential farm work and our social media fun going.
Of course our project is about the animals as well and this week we've seen Bumblebee join our sheep out in the fields. It feels really strange to walk around the farm without seeing Bumblebee trying to get into a bucket, but it's so good to see her finally accepted by the rest of the flock and living a slightly more normal life for a sheep. Both of our lambs are doing well and it's great to see Dorset so confident of his feet now and enjoying the farm back with his mum and sister. We're still hoping to see Cuthbert just as confident back on his feet, but he's still doing well and moving more. I know a lot of you miss seeing him on our videos, but don't forget you can normally catch him on the extended rush hour on YouTube while he's getting better. While across the rest of the farm we're continuing to get ready for the winter and setting up some new pens.
So that's it for another week and all that's left to say is thank you, and this week I'd like to thank Sarah and Issy for all of their online support. You might have seen them replying to your questions and comments online and joining our live feeds across all of our platforms. We really can't thank them both enough for spending their time to support the project by helping keep everyone up to date. They are both stars.
Until next time, keep safe,
Kara, Casey and Teddy
