Pandemic support fund helps recover countryside project
- First students return to countryside education following school closures for pandemic
- Rural education centre given fund to recover project by the Social Enterprise Support Fund
Before the COVID-19 pandemic the Caenhill Countryside Centre (CaenhillCC) brought rural education to the local community in Devizes and the surrounding areas. Through student placements, group visits, the Saturday Dotty club and volunteering opportunities, the centre brought a hands on learning experience to both children and adults from a variety of backgrounds.
When the country went into lockdown CaenhillCC, along with other centres of education, was forced to close its gates taking the students away from the projects they had worked so hard on, and removing the day to day support for the care of the many animals. It also took away vital funding brought in by placements to support the overall costs of running the project.
With over 300 animals in the centre’s care, work had to continue and funding had to be found so a small but dedicated team kept the project running. Through lambing, chicks hatching, hot weather and the summer harvest they looked after the animals day and night while using the internet to bring rural learning to their students and the rest of the world. This kept students engaged and brought in funding to help feed the animals through donations from across the world.
CaenhillCC is lucky enough to have found its way through the worst of the pandemic and now be lucky enough to be opening the gates to students and placements again. Though the hard work is not over, and we must continue to work towards keeping our project sustainable to continue to bring the countryside to the local community.
That’s why we’re honoured to have been awarded funding from the Social Enterprise Support Fund which is distributed by the School for Social Entrepreneurs. The funding which helps to recover funds lost through the pandemic will allow us to….
Our thanks also go to the National Lottery and the people who take part so regularly and have helped by making all of this possible at Caenhill Countryside Centre.
The Caenhill Countryside Centre has been working away all year - mostly without our regular team of helpers and the students who work with us and learn about the countryside. So many things have had to change due to the Lockdown times and distancing.
We are here and now have students back with us.
Such a shame they all missed the lovely summer time, new lambs, new chicks, and the great summer time work ending with the harvest.
It has all happened and we have made sure there is food and bedding and a warm place for the animals during the coming winter months.
The students return is a positive time and they will be able to have some help and support as they spend their time here.
We have been kindly rewarded funding from the Social Enterprise Support Fund which is distributed by the School for Social Entrepreneurs. The grant awarded has helped us to recover our lively farm project which is shared by many young people and community members.
Our thanks also go to the National Lottery and the people who take part so regularly and have helped by making all of this possible at Caenhill Countryside Centre.
