Planning your visit

As this is a working farm, we advise that you wear wellies during wet weather or study trainers/ walking boots during warmer days. Please also ensure you wear sensible clothing with legs covered for field work. Most work will take place outside or in our barn, so please dress according to the weather and bring sun protection in warmer months.

Arrival

Please ensure you are booked in and we are expecting you before arriving for volunteering. All visits, regardless of reason, must be expected by the team so that we can best utilise your time.

On arrival at the farm, please wait at the gate for a member of the team to greet you, this is for the safety of both you and our animals.

Facilities

There is plenty of parking available on site though please note that vehicles are left at your own risk.  We also have toilets, hand wash and boot washing facilities available for use while you are with us. Unfortunately we do not have any catering facilities available at the farm so you will need to bring any food and drink you require with you. There are, however, plenty of places to get a meal, snack or drink in the local town of Devizes during or after your day(s) with us.

On site

Please be aware that there can be many dangers on a farm, therefore we ask that you follow the guidance of our team at all times. This includes not touching or feeding the animals unless it is advised it’s ok to do so, not touching any tools, machinery or equipment unless asked to do so and keeping to the areas you are directed to.

Also, please be aware that as well as a place for wellbeing and education, CaenhillCC is Chris and Helie’s home, we therefore ask that you keep to the areas directed.

Video and photography

We welcome you to take photos during your time volunteering with us though please take guidance from the team for suitable opportunities and do not handle animals for photo opportunities unless you have been advised it is ok to do so. Also, due to the nature of our work, there may be filming of photography taking place on site during your visit. If you do not wish to appear in photography or video, please advise before your time with us via email or let us know on your arrival.

How to find us

Caenhill Countryside Centre is located to the west of Devizes, just off the A361 (dual carriageway) signed Trowbridge

We are at the bottom of the dual-carriageway/ hill on a staggered junction.

Turning off of this busy road can be difficult given the speed of other road users, please take care.

You will need to turn off of the A361 directly onto a farm track - ours is the 2nd property along the track.

There is no sign visible from the road.

The entrance is directly opposite the turning to Rowde / Caen Hill Locks.

Follow down the track to the farm buildings.

Postcode is SN10 5TF (take care, some SatNavs send you to another village)

NOTE: You should leave the A361 dual carriageway onto the farm track, if you go to another village or road you will have taken a wrong turn.
